Yet another month has been and gone! How unbelievable is it that July is done and dusted already!?
I thought I'd share with you a monthly update on what's been going on in the veg garden.
The month started with my first chard harvest which I was very much looking forward to trying for the first time. Mum cooked us a roast one night and we had it on the side with the rest of our veg and it went down very well with all. It is very tasty and nice to have the textures of both the stem and the leaves. Later in the week, mum cooked a crustless quiche in which she used my yellow courgettes and some more chard. 10/10 for homegrown produce!
Next up I've had bowls full of french beans! I can't believe how successful those plants have been after all the slug damage they had to put up with. This has been my most active crop and I've picked a handful or two every week this month!
Talking of beans I'm pleased that my dwarf plants have started to produce too! This just happened last weekend so I'm yet to have them with any meal but I have had one or two fresh which were scrumptious!
Another exciting one to mention is my tomato plants. Two of my plants in the grow house have fruited and I've had a couple of extremely delicious homegrown toms! I was super thrilled to see these grow and ripen as currently my Shirley plant still hasn't ripened though it's been teasing me for the best part of the month!
Everything else is looking quite healthy including my tom thumb lettuce and raddish! Magically, my raspberry plants have come back to life with evidence of raspberries although they aren't much good for anything so I'm leaving them to it for the rest of the year and we'll see what they have to say for themselves next year!
All in all, things are going fairly well considering we've had terrible growing conditions and slugs coming out of all orifices! I've started more carrots off in the growhouse to plant my last crop of carrots next month and then it'll be autumn/winter planning!
If you like regular updates from the garden, I'm more active on YouTube than I am anywhere else (or Instagram stories).
Speak soon, much love,
